Report summary

Merck Sharp & Dohme Limited's marketing authorization application for Steglatro (ertugliflozin) as a monotherapy or add-on for type 2 diabetes mellitus was submitted to the EMA in February 2017. Ertugliflozin, an SGLT2 inhibitor, demonstrated high potency and selectivity in non-clinical studies. Clinical trials consistently showed significant reductions in HbA1c, fasting plasma glucose, body weight, and blood pressure across various patient populations, including those with renal impairment. While generally well-tolerated, safety concerns include increased risks of volume depletion, genital infections, and a slight increase in LDL-C. The overall benefit-risk profile is consistent with other SGLT2 inhibitors, with ongoing monitoring for potential risks like ketoacidosis and bone fracture.
