VERZENIO vs Ibrance

VERZENIO (abemaciclib) and Ibrance (palbociclib) are both CDK4/6 inhibitors reviewed for HR-positive, HER2-negative breast cancer. VERZENIO, in combination with fulvestrant, was reviewed for women with advanced or metastatic breast cancer that progressed after endocrine therapy. In its pivotal trial, the median progression-free survival for abemaciclib plus fulvestrant was 16.4 months, compared to 9.3 months for placebo plus fulvestrant.

Ibrance was reviewed for HR-positive, HER2-negative advanced or metastatic breast cancer in combination with an aromatase inhibitor as initial endocrine-based therapy in postmenopausal women and men, and also for disease progression following endocrine therapy. In one pivotal trial, Ibrance plus letrozole showed a median progression-free survival of 24.8 months, versus 14.5 months for placebo plus letrozole. In another trial, Ibrance plus fulvestrant demonstrated a median progression-free survival of 9.5 months, compared to 4.6 months for placebo plus fulvestrant.

It is crucial to note that these drugs were studied in separate trials with different designs, patient populations, and timepoints. The reported figures are from each drug's own review documents and are not directly comparable in a head-to-head manner. Therefore, no implication of superiority for either drug should be drawn from these distinct trial results.
