Victoza vs Ozempic

both GLP-1 receptor agonists reviewed for type 2 diabetes

Not a head-to-head comparison. These drugs were studied in separate trials with different designs, populations and timepoints. Each figure below comes from that drug's own reviews and cannot be lined up against the other's.

What the regulatory reviews say

Victoza and Ozempic are both GLP-1 receptor agonists reviewed for the treatment of type 2 diabetes. Victoza was reviewed for its ability to reduce the risk of major adverse cardiovascular events in adults with type 2 diabetes mellitus and established cardiovascular disease. The Victoza FDA Review noted a MACE HR of 1.03 (95% CI: 0.84, 1.25).

Ozempic was reviewed as an adjunct to diet and exercise to improve glycemic control in adults with type 2 diabetes mellitus, and to reduce the risk of major adverse cardiovascular events in adults with type 2 diabetes mellitus and established cardiovascular disease. The Ozempic EMA EPAR public assessment report details pharmacokinetic properties such as a mean tยฝ of 155 hours in subjects with T2D.

It is crucial to note that these drugs were studied in separate trials with different designs, populations, and timepoints. The endpoints, populations, and comparators in their respective trials differed. Therefore, the figures presented are not head-to-head comparisons, and neither drug is presented as superior to the other.
