Jardiance vs Farxiga

both SGLT2 inhibitors reviewed for type 2 diabetes

Not a head-to-head comparison. These drugs were studied in separate trials with different designs, populations and timepoints. Each figure below comes from that drug's own reviews and cannot be lined up against the other's.

What the regulatory reviews say

Jardiance (empagliflozin) is an SGLT2 inhibitor reviewed for the treatment of type 2 diabetes mellitus. Regulators reviewed its use to improve glycemic control in adults, to reduce the risk of cardiovascular death in adult patients with established cardiovascular disease, and for the treatment of children aged 10 years and above with type 2 diabetes mellitus. In its EMA EPAR public assessment, Jardiance demonstrated an HbA1c reduction of -0.85%.

Farxiga (dapagliflozin) is also an SGLT2 inhibitor, reviewed for various indications related to heart failure and type 2 diabetes. Regulators reviewed its use to reduce the risk of cardiovascular death, hospitalization for heart failure, and urgent heart failure visits in adults with heart failure, and to reduce the risk of hospitalization for heart failure in adults with T2DM and established CV disease. In its FDA Review, Farxiga showed a hazard ratio for the composite of hospitalization for heart failure or CV death of 0.83.

It is crucial to note that these drugs were studied in separate trials with different designs, populations, endpoints, timepoints, and comparator arms. Therefore, the figures presented are not head-to-head comparisons, and neither drug is presented as superior to the other.
