What the regulatory reviews say
Bimzelx (bimekizumab) and Cosentyx (secukinumab) are both IL-17 pathway inhibitors reviewed for the treatment of plaque psoriasis. Bimzelx is indicated for moderate to severe plaque psoriasis in adults who are candidates for systemic therapy or phototherapy, as well as moderate to severe chronic plaque psoriasis in children (6 to 11 years) and adolescents (12 to <18 years), and psoriatic arthritis. Cosentyx is indicated for the treatment of moderate to severe plaque psoriasis in adults who are candidates for systemic therapy, as well as active psoriatic arthritis (PsA), active ankylosing spondylitis (AS), active non-radiographic axial spondyloarthritis (nr-axSpA) with objective signs of inflammation, and moderate to severe hidradenitis suppurativa.
Regulators reviewed Bimzelx's efficacy, noting a PASI 90 response rate of 90.8% in its trials, compared to 4.8% for placebo. Cosentyx's reviews highlighted a PASI 75 response rate of 95% and 83% in its respective trials, and an IGA of clear or almost clear in 65% and 62% of patients.
It is crucial to understand that these drugs were studied in separate trials with different designs, populations, endpoints, and timepoints. The figures presented are from each drug's own regulatory review documents and are not head-to-head comparisons. Therefore, no direct comparison or implication of superiority between the drugs should be made based on these figures.
