Novo Nordisk A/S (NVO) focuses on metabolic therapeutic areas, with drugs like Saxenda and Victoza. Saxenda (liraglutide 3.0 mg) demonstrated a mean weight loss of 7.8 kg, with 50.1% of patients achieving at least 10% weight loss. The mean weight loss for Saxenda was 7.5%, compared to 2.3% for placebo. The estimated treatment effect using conservative methods was -4.28%. For patients with type 2 diabetes, severe hypoglycemia was observed in 0.7% with liraglutide 3.0 mg and 1.0% with liraglutide 1.8 mg. In patients without type 2 diabetes, 1.6% reported AEs of hypoglycemia with liraglutide 3.0 mg, versus 1.1% with placebo. Treatment-emergent cardiac arrhythmia events were 3.3% for liraglutide 3.0 mg, compared to 3.0% for placebo. The MACE hazard ratio for liraglutide 3.0 mg versus placebo was 0.33, and for total liraglutide versus total comparator, it was 0.40. The rate of events in SOC “Cardiac disorders” was 4.5 events/100 PYE for liraglutide 3.0 mg and 4.3 events/100 PYE for placebo. Acute pancreatitis occurred in 0.2% of patients receiving liraglutide 3.0 mg, compared to <0.1% for placebo. For Victoza, treatment-emergent pancreatitis events in T2DM patients were 0.1% for liraglutide and <0.1% for the comparator.

Semaglutide, an active substance, has a potency (cAMP production) of 0.15 nM, as seen in both Wegovy and Rybelsus EMA EPARs. Semaglutide is 8-fold less potent than GLP-1 in cAMP production. Novo Nordisk A/S also has a product named Kayshild, with an application submission date of 4 March 2025 in the European Union.
